A Community of Scientific Investigation

The influence of the scientific inquiry conducted by the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering is highly visible—through prestigious awards granted to our faculty and students alike, publication in scientific journals, authorship of standard textbooks, and conference participation. OR doctoral graduates advance to teach at top academic institutions such as MIT, the University of Texas-Austin, the University of Wisconsin School of Business, and Princeton.

Doctoral students enjoy a rich, collaborative experience with faculty in the School of Operations Research, the College of Engineering, and across Cornell. Ours is a scholarly, scientific community offering opportunities for students interested in a doctoral degree to pursue advanced critical thinking, scientific scholarship, and rigorous, select in-depth study. A select sample of our current research projects and opportunities include the following,

In recent years, our doctoral students have been awarded fellowships by the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, Department of Defense, National Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and others. Industrial sponsors of doctoral research include IBM, General Motors, Sunoco, Amazon, and others.

Our students have won the SIAM Student Paper Prize, MSOM Student Paper Award, and the INFORMS/IIE Student Chapter Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards, to name a few.
