Transcript - Best in Class Teaching
The expectations that we have for Master of Engineering students differ from PhD programs. We have designed this program to be a professional program, not a research program-- discovering what a problem is, putting that problem into words, and then, how do you present the results to a non-technical audience? These are the skills that we are striving for.
I teach a range of courses for MEng students. There's a simulation course that's offered to those folks and that was something that I brought with me when I moved to Cornell. And so with the Master of Engineering students, again, it's sort of bridging to the real world. It's connecting in that way.
The Master of Engineering students often teach me about areas of application that I've never encountered before. And they come in—they'll do a class project, for instance, they're able to make a substantial new contribution in that area and in the process teach me about that subject area.
