Fifty-seven Financial Engineering students returned to school for their CFEM semester in Fall 2023! On Tuesday, August 29th, the Class of 2023 met CFEM faculty and staff for a Welcome Orientation. In addition, FE Bootcamps I and II took place on August 18th and Sep. 9th, respectively, with the latter event hosting first-year students who traveled from Ithaca.
Ayumi Sakamoto, CFEM Associate Director of Career Development, reflected on the new faces at Bootcamp. "We are thrilled to welcome our new first-year students, as well as catch up with our returning second-year students! Our collaborative and supportive culture is stronger than ever!"
CFEM Director Victoria Averbukh echoed the enthusiasm for a promising start to the semester. "We welcomed our students in Ithaca and at Cornell Financial Engineering Manhattan with new courses, new Career Bootcamps, and new networking opportunities. The year started with practical career development workshops and orientations and quickly progressed to exciting and practical immersions into quantitative finance and financial data science."
This fall, CFEM students are taking a new course called “Practical Intro to Crypto," with additional lectures on generative AI and ChatGPT. Prof. Sasha Stoikov, CFEM Head of Research, is already collaborating with student teams for their final projects as students apply their Financial Data Science skills to address real-world challenges.
We expect our students to leave CFEM as the new leading experts in the financial industry!
